Making Kannada learning accessible, structured, and engaging.
In the stillness of the world’s greatest pause, when streets were empty and voices were confined to digital screens, a small yet powerful idea was born.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, when the world was forced to slow down, Thanmaya Prakash, a passionate Kannadiga, found herself teaching Kannada to just one person. What started as a simple act of guidance soon became an eye-opening experience. As she taught, she realized something extraordinary—Kannada wasn’t just a language; it was a beautifully structured, deeply logical system. The more she taught, the more she uncovered its scientific foundation, its elegance, and its untold potential to be learned in a more intuitive way.
But she also noticed something else—a gap. A gap between people wanting to learn Kannada and the lack of structured resources to help them. A gap between the rich cultural identity of Karnataka and the people who wanted to connect with it. And beyond language learning, she noticed another void—a lack of high-quality Kannada content services that businesses and individuals needed to bridge the linguistic divide.
That’s when Kannada Guru was born—not just as a language school, but as a complete hub for Kannada learning, content creation, and cultural connection.
From teaching one person to building a thriving community, Kannada Guru grew into a movement—a space where learning is logical, interactive, and immersive. And as Kannada Guru evolved, so did its vision—to ensure Kannada is not just spoken, but truly experienced.
At Kannada Guru, we believe in more than just teaching a language. Our values reflect our commitment to preserving and promoting Kannada in a meaningful way.

For Thanmaya Prakash, Kannada is more than just a language—it’s a way of life. A proud Kannadiga and Bangalorean, her love for Kannada began in childhood through poetry and storytelling. With a Master’s in Journalism and experience at The Hindu, Times of India, and Kannada Prabha, she honed her skills in writing, research, and communication.
Now a Communication Specialist and guest faculty at St. Joseph’s University, she brings her passion for Kannada to teaching. Through Kannada Guru, her dream project, she makes learning Kannada accessible and engaging while celebrating Karnataka’s rich heritage. For Thanmaya, every lesson is a step toward preserving and nurturing the language, instilling pride and cultural connection in learners.
For Praneetha Prakash, teaching Kannada is a calling born of deep-rooted cultural pride and personal experience. Growing up in an environment where Kannada was woven into everyday life, she developed an early passion for the language—fueled by leadership roles in school and active participation in Kannada cultural events. Although she pursued a degree in Chemistry and Biotechnology at St. Joseph’s University, her heart remained with Kannada, inspired by her sister Thanmaya’s journey and unwavering love for the language.
With over four years of tutoring experience at Kannada Guru, Praneetha has dedicated herself to making Kannada both accessible and engaging. Her teaching journey is enriched by her past roles in school leadership and Kannada associations, where she organized events that celebrated the language’s literary and cultural heritage. Her volunteer work with organizations like Yuva Bangalore Foundation and her role as Joint Director in Health further underline her commitment to service and education.
For Thanmaya Prakash and Praneetha Prakash, Kannada isn’t just a language—it’s a feeling, a memory, a connection that runs deep. It’s a love they inherited, one that was carefully nurtured in the quiet moments of childhood, in the soft voice of their grandfather(who they fondly called “Appaji”), who unknowingly shaped their lifelong bond with Kannada.
As little girls, their world revolved around Kannada words, stories, and sounds. Their grandfather would sit with them on summer mornings, reading the newspaper aloud, picking words for them to write, making them practice their handwriting, learn new words, and perfect their script. His handwriting was nothing short of art—so elegant, so precise. They watched in awe and promised themselves that one day, theirs would be just like his.
Every moment, every lesson, every story was woven with Kannada. It was more than just a language; it was a home, a heritage, a love that was passed down like a priceless treasure.
Today, as Thanmaya and Praneetha run Kannada Guru together, they carry forward this legacy—not just teaching Kannada, but keeping alive the experience, the beauty, and the emotion that was instilled in them as children. Their journey isn’t just about education—it’s about sharing a love that began at home, in the voice of a grandfather who believed that Kannada was not just meant to be spoken, but lived.
